Stocks Fall After Bush Announces Plan

Investors had already pulled back from a big early gain, with the major indexes trading mixed as Bush began to speak. By the time the president finished announcing a plan for about $145 billion worth of tax relief, the indexes were well into negative territory.

"It's disappointed in the size of the economic growth package. Wall Street's showing its displeasure," said Kim Caughey, equity research analyst at Fort Pitt Capital Group in Pittsburgh. "Honestly, I think the institutional investors understand the limits to the government's ability to enact economic change."

The Dow Jones industrial average, up more than 180 points in morning trading, was down 85.11, or 0.70 percent, at 12,074.10. The Dow plunged 306 points Thursday amid deepening pessimism about the economy.

Warner’s plan thwarted by Caribbean protests

HAVING GOT his own way for so long in the Caribbean, it appears the little guys have come out fighting against Fifa vice-president Jack Warner.

The Sunday Herald reported last week how Warner had instructed the tiny Antigua and Barbuda football association to hand over nearly £100,000 to meet undocumented expenses to discredited former official Chet Greene.

They were given until last Thursday to pay or they would be expelled from Fifa. However, Merv Richards - the president of the local association and brother of cricketer Viv - has called on Fifa to intervene and investigate and Antigua and Barbuda have been given a stay of execution.

Scott Boras starts to gets a clue - sort of

Lisa, may I add that Red Sox fans don't want to see ARod in a Red Sox uniform either next year....way too much has happenend for that to go over well. Last week's announcement was just the icing on the cake for the guy. It has and is and always will be about him, nothing more. Pretty sad. Wouldn't it be funny if no one was buying Boras' line of BS about ARod and no one gave him the 350+ million he is seeking for ARod. Then what?

NIST Admits Total Collapse Of Twin Towers Unexplainable Submitted by ...

Larry Silverstein, the landlord, said that he had ordered the fire department to "pull" the building. "Pull" is a term used for controlled demolition, which would explain why a building that was not hit by a plane and did not have fires large enough to melt steel and initiate a total collapse, did indeed collapse at freefall speed, just like Buildings One and Two. That's why the NIST report doesn't mention Bldg.7, because no plane hit it, so if it could collapse at freefall speed without having been hit by a plane, so could any other building. Particularly if the building had been loaded with explosives beforehand and an order was given to pull it.

No other buildings in history have collapsed at freefall speed due to fires. Much larger fires have blazed for days in much less sturdy buildings without causing them to collapse.

GOALFLASHES AND MAJOR INCIDENTS (all times GMT)

Trust me, there's nothing to talk about. This game is dire - as you might see by the "highlights" on Match of the Day tonight.
