Helen Clark Address to University of Southampton

Thank you for the opportunity to speak to you today on the topic of Social democracy under the Southern Cross: New Zealand in the 21st century.

I would like to express my appreciation of the University of Southampton’s academic interest in New Zealand, and its organisation of this lecture series on the “new” New Zealand. .

Dolan still has confidence in Knicks coach Thomas

The Suns' Grant Hill on how Orlando has been revitalized under coach Stan Van Gundy: "We didn't get the right coaching there. I think we under-performed the last few years." Nice slap at former Magic coach Brian Hill, who is now an assistant in New Jersey helping Lawrence Frank do the same thing to the Nets.

Has Shaq's star finally faded?

With fan voting concluding today, Shaquille O'Neal's streak making an All-Star roster appears all but over. Orlando's Dwight Howard has a 2-1 lead in the voting, and Toronto's Chris Bosh is expected to be selected by coaches as the reserve center. O'Neal has been selected to the All-Star Game every year there has been one during his 15-year career. The exception was the lockout-shortened 1999 season.

Heat coach Pat Riley is perhaps the only person in the NBA who believes Shaq deserves consideration based on his body of work.

Dream of Veterans Memorial getting closer to reality

The memorial is estimated to total about $350,000 according to the City of Norman's Web site at www.NormanOK.gov.Schulenberg has found heroes like Norman actor James Garner, who was the first draftee from Oklahoma into the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. While in Korea, Garner was wounded twice and awarded two purple hearts.Garner has supported the project with his own funds to help honor other veterans as well.Hundreds of others have contributed funds and even profits from the Moore Bingo facility have helped. And for all Schulenberg's contributor heroes who have written checks to move the project closer to reality, it's America's military heroes -- its veterans -- that he most wants to honor."We want the sacrifices the veterans have made to never be forgotten, and this memorial will honor their names for generations to come," Schulenberg said last year. The concept for the Cleveland County Veterans Memorial was created by Norman engineer Bob Goins and Marine veteran Clarence Powell and designed by the architectural team of Rick McKinney, Nathan Coffey, Toni Bragg and Bryan Rainbow of the McKinney Architects Partnership."We are just trying to provide a space and a palette where they can include all the men and women from as far back as they can go, as far back as they have records," McKinney said. The concept was to create a five-faceted granite and bronze sculpture."And they've settled on this wonderful eagle with an American flag and it's on an about 11-foot high pylon that's a five-sided pentagon.

Performance and Accountability Report - Fiscal Year 2007 (NUREG-1542 ...

The NRC has a defined set of regulatory practices, knowledge and expertise specific to each activity in the nuclear material cycle to address safety and security issues.

Approximately 20 percent of the Nation's electricity is generated by the 104 NRC-licensed commercial nuclear reactors operating in 31 States (see Figure 3). Since 1994, nuclear electric generation has increased by approximately 22 percent. The NRC oversees 4,369 licenses for medical, academic, industrial and general uses of nuclear materials (see Figure 4). The agency conducts approximately 1,500 health and safety inspections of its nuclear materials licensees annually. In addition, the 34 Agreement States oversee 17,807 licenses. These Agreement States have assumed the majority of regulatory responsibilities for overseeing the activities of industrial, medical, and other small users of nuclear material within their borders.

Clearfield businessman running for Congress

A Clearfield County business owner has announced his candidacy for the 5th District seat in the U.S. House.

Derek Walker is seeking the Republican nomination for the position in Congress being vacated by John Peterson.

I believe that I have the background and a unique perspective as a result of having been born and raised in Bigler, a small mining village in Clearfield County, and having operated a successful business as well as serving on the boards of a number of community and economic development organizations, Walker said. I understand the challenges facing the people of this region and with hard work I believe that I can improve our future economic prosperity, the candidate added.

Walker graduated from Clearfield High School with high honors and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in economics from Bucknell University and a Masters in Business Administration from Penn State.

Keller Rohrback L.L.P. Announces ERISA Investigation of the Merrill ...

SEATTLE, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Keller Rohrback L.L.P. (http://www.erisafraud.com) announces that it has commenced an investigation against Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. ("Merrill Lynch" or the "Company") (NYSE: MER) for potential violations of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 ("ERISA"). The investigation focuses on investments in Merrill Lynch stock by the Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. 401(k) Savings and Investment Plan (the "Plan").

Keller Rohrback's investigation involves concerns that Merrill Lynch and other administrators of the Plan may have breached their ERISA-mandated fiduciary duties of loyalty and prudence to participants and beneficiaries of the Plan. A breach may have occurred if the fiduciaries failed to manage the assets of the Plan prudently and loyally by investing the assets in Company stock when it was no longer a prudent investment for participants' retirement savings.

S.C. or else for Thompson

The issue that he hears about most on the campaign trail is illegal immigration. But voters also are concerned about a variety of other issues, such as the war in Iraq, radical Islam, health care, the nuclear threat posed by Iran and the political turmoil in Pakistan, he said.

Wherever he goes, his message is the same - that he is the only candidate who has fought consistently for the issues that matter to conservatives, things such as national security, tax cuts, balanced budgets and gun owners' rights.

"I've been fighting for these things for a long time," Thompson said. The other Republican candidates "have had to adapt their positions, bring them up to date, shall we say. Where they have been in times past, I have not."

Judging from the size and enthusiasm of the crowds that show up at his events, Thompson is convinced that his message is getting through.
