While I know you're probably tired of hearing about the adventures of my family's canines, I have to tell you the latest. (If you're really sick of dog stories, skip ahead to the next page.) Roxy is the cutest puppy ever. Hands down. Bar none. Her cuteness gets her a lot of attention, and it's hard to stay mad at her. But last week, I swear, I was ready to send her to the doggy equivalent of the glue factory. The little beast ate my new jacket. A really gorgeous washable mink-colored suede jacket I got at Nordstrom Rack in Tukwila. On Monday. When I got home Wednesday, I was tired and bummed out. I hung the jacket on the kitchen chair, made a cup of tea and went upstairs to finish some work. While my husband was running a couple of errands and my daughter was playing a video game, Jake, our older dog, curled up by my feet and fell asleep.

FDA approves HIV drug etravirine
Sold under the trade name Intelence, etravirine is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor, or NNRTI, that helps to block an enzyme that the human immunodeficiency virus needs to multiply, the FDA said. It was approved for use in combination with other anti-HIV medications. Etravirine can reduce the amount of HIV in the blood and increase white blood cells that help fight off other infections, the FDA said. It also may reduce the risk of death or infections that can occur with a weakened immune system. The government gave etravirine a priority review, a status granted to medications aimed at treating serious or life-threatening conditions. Tibotec Pharmaceuticals Ltd., a unit of Johnson & Johnson, said last July that it had requested etravirine be placed on a fast track for review.
Prediction roundup: Book Arizona
I think Rivers will play. The key will be how well the Chargers' two lines can handle the Patriots. I think they can have success on both sides. Look for LaDainian Tomlinson to run for 100 yards and keep the sticks moving. The San Diego defense will tackle well and keep Randy Moss in front of them. In the end, though, the Patriots are just too good. Tom Brady throws for three more scores and the Patriots will get to 18-0. Jeff Zillgitt, USA Today: Patriots 35, Chargers 20. With a backup quarterback, a backup running back and a star tight end playing on basically one leg, San Diego beat the Colts in Indianapolis. Impressive indeed, especially San Diego's defense, which is why the Chargers are in this game. But where does that leave the Chargers against the Patriots? In a tough spot, even if Philip Rivers and LaDainian Tomlinson play.
If it's 4 a.m., that's an infomercial on TV
We can see product demonstrations instantly, online. Yet, even so, this particular brand of extended sales pitch -- rife with painfully bad acting, peppy spokespeople and enthusiastic product demos -- still rules the airwaves in the wee hours. Some suck you in, while others just plain... don't. But they all have something to say. So, now, as we settle down for the post-holiday sales doldrums, we have a few things to say about them. (As for the products themselves, we neither endorse nor malign, as we're strictly infomercial window-shoppers.) That said, we give you "The Insomniac's Guide to (a few) Infomercials," which is -- we swear -- based on descriptions of actual product pitches. The Magic Bullet This infomercial is unique in that it tells a story.
SAD-BJP rally chokes city roads
The SAD-BJP rally at Matka Chowk this afternoon resulted in traffic bottlenecks, jams and police barricades on major roads in the city which left commuters harassed. The commuters were left stranded for hours at several places, including Madhya Marg and roads around Sectors 15, 24, 23, 22 and 21. Students returning home via these routes were delayed by over an hour. Over 1,000 police personnel, including additional force from the Punjab Police, had been deployed on duty. In an unsuccessful attempt to control the situation, the police cordoned off several roads along Sectors 16, 17 and 23. In fact, the police itself started diverting vehicles used by the demonstrators towards the wrong-side. The vehicles coming from Madhya Marg were made to enter Sector 17 from the Hotel Taj side.

New owners Ann & Ward Brown have no intention of redeveloping the property. Marina owner, Harbormaster sparChatham selectmen have asked the town manager to review fees charged to the public for access to public documents. This in light of recent complaints hurled at the harbormasters office by marina owner David Oppenheim. Archaeology survey plannedA "reconnaissance level survey" has been planned to identify both known and probable archaeologically significant sites in Chatham. It is hoped that the survey will help the town ensure that these historical sites will be preserved and protected in the future. No ORVs on South Beach--yetDespite rumbling by ORV enthusiasts, the town has yet to open the stretch to ORVs. A dialogue is open, but it is not known when or if the area will be opened. Chatham police chief Mark Pawlina said patrols of the area will be increased. Chatham A's, Park commission wrangleIt could come to blows for the Chatham A's Association and the Parks & Recreation Commission over issues such as food concession and the number of Chatham students who will be allowed to attend the baseball clinic at no charge.
U-M deal also has $4 million buyout
The university will also contribute an unspecified amount toward his retirement fund and provide him with two cars, plus paid insurance, according to the agreement. Former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr, who retired in November, earned $1,770,535.50 in overall compensation during the final year of his contract. Rodriguez could earn an additional $300,000 if he wins a national championship at Michigan. He can earn $200,000 if the Wolverines appear in a Bowl Championship Series game. Also Friday, Rodriguez received a $287,000 incentive payment from West Virginia for goals reached during the 2007 season. Among the incentives he reached this season was a one-time $150,000 payment for winning the Big East championship and receiving a BCS berth, and $25,000 for finishing in the top 10.
'That takes a lot for a man to do that'
Although he said "I'm not a martyr or anything like that," but there was a sacrificial quality to his decision — that Odom and his 400-plus wins as a coach had put aside his reputation for the sake of his players. "Yeah, I see it as kind of like that," said junior guard Zam Fredrick, who transferred to USC to be closer to his home in Calhoun County. "He's taking it on himself and taking himself out of it. That takes a lot for a man to do that. That says a lot about him." During an hour-long news conference, Odom echoed for the second time the story that, on the way home from the team's upset win at Arkansas on Wednesday, he overheard the conversation of a couple of players. While they weren't critical of South Carolina's fans, per se, Odom said they were envious of the road environments at Arkansas and Vanderbilt.
